Muubaa Pop-Up Shop & AW 13 Sneak Peek

As part of the Pop Up Britain initiative, leather brand Muubaa is opening its first ever pop up shop for one week only in Central London. An exclusive selection of the current Autumn Winter 2013 collection, including lines not yet available in any London store, will be on sale in the Piccadilly-based store. I'm heading over on Thursday to get my leather fix but if you can't make it down to London I've compiled a little taster of the full range below. 

The new Muubaa collection is looking more trend-led than ever, tapping into some of Autumn's biggest colour stories such as oxblood and wine inspired tones, ombre and tie dye effects, and an array of metallics including an amazing silver collarless jacket and statement bikers in patent leather. Don't forget the textures either, as detachable fur collars and Aztec embroidered fabrics try to steal the limelight from the classic biker. 

Muubaa still manages to make black look edgy though, especially on laser cut jackets and shorts, pencil dresses, skater skirts, tank tops, and the convertible trench coat below - crop it like its hot if you dare. My Favourites for the season? The Salazar ombre biker in forest green (what a beauty) and the Azana collar tip shirt, to be worn under my dungarees and tucked into pencil skirts. Finally, the Ceylon skater dress in Antique Silver is ideal for Autumn's big punk trend. Just pair with plaid and denim for a 90's grunge look or dress it up with a smokey eye for a night out.

Friday Treat Time: Shimla Jewellery's Charm Offensive

Shimla Jewellery - the brand famous for its beaded crystal and hematite jewellery loved by the A list - has launched a new line of spiritually inspired luxury charm bracelets for Autumn. These semi precious, hand made styles are all adorned with charms, some of which are said to ward off bad luck like the Hamsa or the “Hand of Fatima,” a palm-shaped amulet recognised as a sign of protection in many societies throughout history. The Om symbol - a sacred mantra and mystical Sanskrit sound of Hindu origin - also features, alongside stone set wing and eye designs in beautiful agate and howlite.

My favourite piece - and the object of my desires this Friday treat time - is the Hand Of Fatima style in turquoise as seen below. It's a fantastic injection of colour for these final days of summer and will compliment my already extensive collection of turquoise pieces bought on holidays to Greece.

Taking Oriental Into Autumn With Ruby Rocks

One of summer's biggest trends for all things Oriental, is still going strong for Autumn and I for one couldn't be happier. I just can't resist the rich fabrics, detailed brocades and a kimono sleeve! My grandparents lived in Hong Kong for many years during the 50's and 60's, and as such their house is a treasure trove of furniture from the East - perhaps that's why I'm so drawn to this trend every time it comes back into fashion.

One brand successfully taking the Oriental trend into Autumn / Winter 2013 is young fashion label Ruby Rocks. When I visited their central London showroom last Friday I was impressed with how easily they had transitioned this key summer print into a new Autumn collection. There were brights like shocking pink, and an eye-catching cobalt blue but there were also rich gold's and classic black - a perfect foil for all those colourful and intricate prints fit for a modern day geisha girl. The jackets in particular look strong; a mix of sporty zip up jersey bombers, cropped bed jackets and silky short sleeve kimono's in vibrant teal, purple and red.

The dragon print is another highlight, re-worked for in black, navy and bright red with yellow and pink accents across zip up jackets, shorts, trousers, and a dipped hem shirt dress. It also features tube skirts and jumpers (see Monday's post on skirts and sweats) both key buys for the changeable Autumn weather. Match together for a bold fashion statement or pair with colour block separates in silks, satins, velvets and leather to match the decadent spirit of the trend.

London Fashion Week Announces Pop-Up Shop

The British Fashion Council has today announced the launch of a pop-up shop to celebrate British contemporary fashion at London Fashion Week (LFW). The on site pop-up at Somerset House will feature an edit of some of the industry’s most exciting names and will run from the 13th – 22nd of September.

  

'The Shop' concept store will be spread across two rooms in the West Wing of the ground floor and will house AW13 ready-to-wear, accessories and shoes by brands including Markus Lupfer, Bella Freud, Sophia Webster, Prism, Dominic Jones, Zoe Jordan, Lulu & Co. and House of Holland.

 

The space will be designed by Robert Storey, with the logo  (seen below) created by renowned artist, Sir Peter Blake.

 

 

The Shop will also play host to a series of pop-up events - such as flash sales, musical performances, readings, interviews and guest appearances - and will be open to the public.

Salt Resort Wear & My Holiday Wish List

Despite having just got back from Copenhagen, my next adventure is just around the corner and in three weeks time I'll be jetting off to exotic, and hopefully sunny, Marrakech. One lesson learnt from my frantic midnight 'what the hell am I going to wear' packing for Denmark was the value of planning, and packing ahead. I'm keen not to repeat my previous mistake and already I've been creating mood boards on Pinterest and scouring the resort-wear collections for the perfect holiday wardrobe.

When I heard about new shopping destination, Salt Resort Wear, I immediately checked it out with an eye to my capsule holiday wardrobe - after all its so hard to find a brand, or a whole website for that matter, that specialises in luxury resort and swimwear all year round. I was not disappointed - the London store and online boutique is a fashion emporium housing resort wear, ready-to-wear and accessories from an array of international designers. I love the mix of edgy labels on offer such as We Are Handsome and Mara Hoffman who are already well established favourites on Little Girl Lost. These sit alongside some famous names like Matthew Williamson, and new discoveries for me such as Koku, Eugina Kim, Lizzie Fortunato and Vix.

On Trend Right Now: Skirts & Sweats

I'm loving the last burst of sunshine right now in London, mainly because its OK to still be wearing my standard summer outfit of maxi dress and flip flops. However, if 25 years of living in Great Briton has taught me anything its that the weather here is changeable to say the least. Today it may be sunny, tomorrow it could feel like the start of a new ice age. Dressing for the change in seasons is always a challenge so with that in mind I've decided that the current on-trend skirt and sweatshirt combination is going to be my new best friend this September.

Skirts are going to be huge this A/W in all their varying forms. However as I'm only 5ft 1 I'm going to stick to mini lengths and knee length tube / pencil skirts, lest I be lost under meters of fabric and pleats. Whistles camo jacquard skirt is my number one investment buy, but I've also got my eye on Topshop's more colourful version and neoprene leopard print jumper. Rika's 'Iron Girl' sweatshirt in black is already hanging in my closet waiting for its big moment.
