It's time for my Friday fashion up after I took a bit of a break this week to get some work done and generally sort my life out ready for the big London move next week.
First up its a run down of all the looks that ticked all my trend boxes this week at the Cannes film festival starting with Nicole Kidman and Heidi Klum.
These two ladies have been working the red carpet for years and both know what suits them best so its no surprise both turned up to The Paperboy screening yesterday looking like goddesses - Nicole in a rose coloured draped number with exposed back by Lanvin and Klum in silver beaded Marchesa.
Also looking like a Greek goddess in a number of ethereal and flowing gowns was Jessica Chastain who seemed to have listened to my advice from last week to bring some glamour back into her red carpet appearances. Gone were the ill fitted dresses and low key make up and back were the va va voom dresses that played up to her curves and a strong red lip.
Two looks in particular rocked my boat - a cream Armani Privé strapless style for the premiere of Madagascar 3 followed closely by premiere of Lawless in a Gucci Première nude gown with sequin detailing. Jessica is back on top form and I am loving it!
I was never going to leave my next entry out of the running: Cannes judge Diane Kruger.
My love of Diane knows no bounds and she could probably wear a sack and I would still find a way to hail it a fashion triumph.
Thank god then that she saved me the trouble and wore this custom made white Nina Ricci gown, accessorised with a Judith Leiber clutch to the Killing Them Softly premiere. In fact I don't know which I prefer more, this or the white puffball design she wore for the amfAR gala.
Kruger didn't stop there as earlier in the week she wore these two equally showstopping custom made dresses, first up a Vivienne Westwood sequin gown at premiere of Amour followed by a navy and black lace draped dress by designer Jason Wu. I think the Wu has the edge for me for the simple reason that I have seen the Westwood style a lot recently, Mischa Barton wore a shorter style for example, but still how tiny does it make her waist look!
Next up and its a surprise entry from my nemesis Kristen Stewart who proved she can be both classy and fabulous at the premiere of her film On The Road. Kristen slipped into a thigh high split dress from Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière. The dress had just the right amount of plunge, print and lady like grace for me without looking frumpy or over the top. Kristen please dress this way all the time!
Joining her was co-star Kirsten Dunst who looked radiant dressed in a bright pink Christian Dior pre-A/W 2012-13 silk gown and Louis Vuitton jewellery.
Both Kirsten and Kristen impressed earlier in the day too with more casual outfits. Here Dunst looked like summery perfection in a lace Dolce & Gabbana A/W 2012-13 dress with Charlotte Olympia heels whilst Stewart wore Balenciaga printed trousers, a white T-shirt and blazer. I need to get me some of those trousers!
Lastly I think we all need to pay homage to the vision that was Naomi Watts in this Marchesa A/W 2012-13 nude petal embroidered gown. One word: stunning!
Now its time for all the styles that fell flat this week and I am starting with some very un-model behaviour from Petra Nemcova and Erin Wasson.
Petra attended the Haiti Carnival benefit with Giorgio Armani and wore a silver dress by the designer. Sadly what could have been a showstopper swamped her frame and the matching shoes make the whole thing a bit too mumsy. Likewise Erin Wasson rocked up at the Chopard party in an Oscar de la Renta intricately-beaded dress. Its not the dress I had the problem with here - its that Wasson looked like she hadn't slept for a week or had a shower. Its Cannes - you are supposed to scrub up love!
Serial offender of crimes against fashion Jada Pinkett Smith is on my hit list next.
First it was an orange number - it was sheer, it was split, it was fringed, it was backless - and overall it was a mess. The blue dress worn to a photo call fared no better as it proved shapeless and mumsy.
Jada then went from one extreme to the other wearing a midnight blue dress for an after party with deep V and pointed shoulder pads. Verdict: Sack the stylist.
No surprise here: its Tara Reid. Tara is clearly trying hard to impress is still falling short of the mark. The first grey dress is undoubtedly better but I don't like the hair, jewellery or accessories. The second is all a bit too much. If she was going to wear a high neck she should have compensated with shorter sleeves, a shorter hemline, wearing her hair down or utilising fierce metallic accessories - anything to detract attention away from the fact you can see the nude slip / spanx thing going on underneath.
Next up its copycat Kim Kardashian. Now we have all been there - your best friend? someone you work with maybe? - when you wear something and two weeks later up they pop in the exact same outfit no doubt looking half as fab-u-lous as you did.
Kim was no exception as she wore this Balmain creation to Cannes which had already been a resounding success for Zoe Saldana, Alessandra Ambrosio AND Katy Perry. For me the dress does nothing for her, the style is wrong for her shape, and the boots are cutting her leg off at the wrong point - making her look shorter than she is. Otherwise a softly waved mane of hair rather than wearing it scraped back off her face might have helped.
Not content with copying three mega stars Kim then went on to wear the same black mesh pannel Emilio Pucci dress that Gwynenth Paltrow wore to the Emmy Awards last year - big mistake considering how well received that dress was!
