The Spring/Summer 2014 collection from Los Angeles based shoe designer Jerome C Rousseau is inspired in great part by African tribal decoration and embellishment. Drawing on the imaginative and decorative way the Omo tribes incorporate nature in their costumes, Rousseau has another somewhat surprising muse this season; Sade from the mid to late eighties. Her signature during this period is apparently translated "in the elegant shapes and details of the collection." according to Rousseau.
Spring 2014 also sees the use of playful texture with python, croc, printed ponyskin, cork and metallic leathers with patent leather to accentuate. This season also marks a clear return to embellishment from the designer with beading, laser cutting, perforation, buttons and leather stitches all adorning shoes.
As part of the SS 14 collection, Rousseau has collaborated with artist Emily J. Snyder to create an incredible hand beaded limited edition design. The Juda shoe is set to become one of his most iconic styles yet, embellished with hand-applied coral, freshwater pearls and vintage Czech glass beads (around 7,000 pieces in total) with each pair taking more than 80 hours to complete.
